Wikia-book

Wikia-book was an incident where a publisher published and sold tons of books using Wikia's wiki contents, all attributing. Wikia was upset, and the community was in an outroar. Wikia themselves bought the books and inspected them. Legally, the books were completely copyright-problem free, so Wikia could not do anything about the books. This happened in 2010-2011.

The backbone of the issue was the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License, which allows COMMERCIAL REPRODUCTION by condition of attribution. Wikia was literally helpless. They could do nothing, and, for the first time, was on the side of the wiki users!

MyWikis aims to fix this problem by creating a more restrictive license towards wannabe profiteers who look for unethical ways to get rich quick. Instead, we place the power in community consensus, with the power resting in the hands of the authors themselves.
